The Princeton men's swimming & diving team will open the 2019 portion of its season Saturday at 2 pm against a strong Navy program, but the Tigers will also use this final home meet of the season to pay tribute to the talented seven members of the Class of 2019. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+, and you can watch it by clicking the link above.
Co-captains Cole Buese and Murphy McQuet will join classmates Aaron Ach, Matthew Drengler, Christian Feiler, Matt Harrington and Tyler Lin for the final home meet of their careers. The Class of 2019 helped lead Princeton to a dramatic 2016 Ivy League title, and it will try to bookend its four-year run with another championship next month when the 2019 championship is up for grabs in Providence.
Princeton couldn't have asked for much more out of the start of its 2018-19 season. The Tigers head into today's meet with a 6-0 mark, which includes a 4-0 record in the Ivy League. Princeton also has wins in both the Big Al Invite and the Brown Invitational, and it picked up nonleague wins over both Florida Atlantic and Boston College to open the season. The Tigers have gotten strong performances up and down the roster, though freshman Raunak Khosla has been especially strong with Ivy Top-2 times in three events (200 fly; 200/400 IM).
As usual, Princeton expects another thriller from the Navy meet, which has been decided by an average of 7 points per meet over the last three meetings. Last year, Princeton won on the final scored touch of the meet, a third-place finish by the Tiger 400 free B relay that provided the margin in a 151.5-148.5 Princeton win.
Navy comes into the afternoon with a terrific 9-1 record, including a 173-127 victory over rival Army on Dec. 1. The reigning Patriot League champions, Navy has seven different swimmers who currently have league-best times in different events.
Navy will swim in the odd lanes during the afternoon, and each event will have two heats. The first will be an exhibition, while the second will be official. The order of events is below.
