Senior Standouts Push Princeton Past Navy In Another Thriller
January 05, 2019 | Men's Swimming and Diving
COMPLETE RESULTS
Murphy McQuet's final competitive touch inside DeNunzio Pool couldn't have been more fitting.
The Princeton co-captain punctuated Senior Day for the Class of 2019 by providing the winning touch in the 400 free relay, the final race of a thrilling meet that gave Princeton a 152-148 victory. It was the second straight year that Princeton clinched the Navy win during the 400 free relay, and the last four Navy duals have now been decided by an average of 6.3 points per meet.
McQuet and fellow co-captain Cole Buese have been leaders for the undefeated 2018-19 Princeton squad (7-0) all season, and they certainly upheld that role during their final meet at DeNunzio. That duo combined for five individual victories against the reigning Patriot League champion Navy Midshipmen, who fell to 9-2 with the loss.ANOTHER THRILLER! Princeton's 400 free relay gets the win to edge Navy 152-148 on Senior Day! Fittingly, it was McQuet with the winning touch for Princeton ... congrats to the Class of 2019! #TigerUp pic.twitter.com/4a2RojqXcR

Buese had a triple win on the day, starting with a victory in the 100 back (49.11). He followed in the 200 back with a win in 1:47.33, and then he edged teammate Derek Cox to take the 100 fly in 49.17.
McQuet ended a two-race win streak for Navy to open the meet by taking the 200 free in 1:37.70, more than two seconds faster than anybody in the field, and he topped a trio of Navy swimmers by more than one second to win the 100 free in 44.70.
Fellow senior Christian Feiler gave the Class of 2019 a sixth individual win, as he took the 50 free in 20.55.
Of course, seniors alone can't win a Senior Day meet, and freshman Raunak Khosla continued his brilliant debut season with two home wins. He took the 200 fly in 1:48.69, and then he won the 200 IM in 1:50.15.
Junior Charlie Minns gave Princeton key points in the diving well by winning the 3-meter event with 375.45 points, while sophomore Colton Young took second in the 1-meter event with 342.75 points.
Princeton will now break for Reading Break and finals, and then the Tigers will focus on two critical February weekends, starting with the HYP meet at Harvard (Feb. 2-3). Princeton will then head to Providence to compete at the 2019 Ivy League Championships, which begin Feb. 27. Both meets are scheduled to be streamed live on ESPN+.
