The all-Tiger doubles semifinal at the ITA Northeast Regional at Penn Monday couldn't have been much closer, with Payton Holden and Ryan Seggerman, the ITA's 15th-ranked duo in the nation, beat teammates Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez 7-6(1), 3-6, (10-2) to advance to Tuesday's final.
"We've had a solid event this week," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Ryan and Payton are looking forward to playing in the final tomorrow after getting by their teammates today. Though it doesn't happen often, there's always the chance you can see your teammates in one of these events. However, that typically means you're doing well and advancing later in the draw. The guys really went after each other today and both teams played well. They have a lot of pride and don't want to lose to their teammates. I'm proud of the effort and competitive spirit in pushing each other. We're excited about our depth in doubles and singles and it showed this week."
Holden and Seggerman will face Dartmouth's Charlie Broom and David Horneffer, the tournament's top seed and the ITA's ninth-ranked pair in the nation.
