Littlefield's Near Triple Double Paces Princeton In Victory over GW

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Behind stellar performances from Carlie Littlefield and Bella Alarie, the Princeton Tigers roared by the George Washington Colonials, 75-50, at the Charles E. Smith Center on Sunday afternoon.

Littlefield tied the program record with 10 steals, adding 22 points, one shy of her career high, along with eight rebounds. Alarie dropped in 14 points and 12 rebounds, giving her 35 double-doubles, matching Niveen Rasheed '13 for first all-time. The senior has recorded a double-double in 39 percent of her games played. Neenah Young contributed 15 points, a personal high in the victory.

The Tigers started slow, trailing 14-4, eight minutes into the contest. Consecutive treys by Grace Stone and a free throw by Littlefield closed the gap to one, 14-13, as the first quarter came to a close.

George Washington kept Princeton at bay before two three-pointers from Young flipped the game and put the Tigers in front, 29-27, at halftime. Alarie had six points and six rebounds in the quarter, totaling 10 points and nine caroms at the break.

Head coach Carla Berube's squad turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, forcing the Colonials to miss their first seven shots in the third stanza. A layup from Taylor Baur made George Washington call timeout with 6:43 to go, trailing 35-27. Princeton expanded its lead to double digits (43-32) on a bucket from Littlefield, making the home unit call another time out with just half the frame left (4:41). The Tigers wrapped up the quarter on a 16-4 sprint and led 53-36 after 30 minutes.

The Colonials registered just nine points in the third stanza, going 3-of-15 from the floor. They never made a push in the final 10 minutes of game action.

Princeton had 36 points in the paint and 29 points off of 20 George Washington turnovers. The Tigers also posted 17 fast break points while allowing two. Littlefield was +26 while Young was second on the unit with a +22 margin with Alarie right behind her at +20.

The Tigers improved to 2-0 this season and George Washington fell to 1-1. Princeton makes the trip to Seton Hall on Friday (Nov. 15). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
