No. 9 Princeton Advances To NCAA Quarterfinals With Dominating 5-1 Win Over No. 13 Syracuse

Princeton's offense got started about four minutes into the game, earning consecutive corners, but couldn't not solve Syracuse goalie Sarah Sinck.

The Tigers finally broke through with under two minutes to go in the first quarter. On a corner, Hannah Davey knocked in an attempt from MaryKate Neff to make it 1-0.
Syracuse's best threat in the first half came halfway through the second quarter with back-to-back corners, but Grace Baylis took a point-blank shot and sent it away.PRINCETON GOAL!

Two minutes later, Clara Roth corralled a turnover, went the distance and got it past Sinck for a two-goal advantage.

Ali McCarthy opened up the second half scoring as she tapped in a high ball from Julianna Tornetta to extend the Tigers' lead to three.

Davey nabbed her second goal directly on a corner as the clock read 7:10 in the third frame.
Roth made it two Tigers with two goals each as she corralled a bouncing ball and sent it into the cage after inserting on a corner less than two minutes later.PRINCETON GOAL!

Syracuse got on the scoreboard on a tip-in with four minutes to go in the third. The Orange thought they had another one on the final play of the stanza, but it was waved off after review.PRINCETON GOAL!

With the win, Princeton now advances to Sunday's 1 p.m. NCAA Quarterfinals to take on No. 2 UConn, a 2-1 winner over Fairfield in Friday's first game. It is the 18th time in program history that the Tigers have reached the quarterfinals. UConn took down Princeton, 2-1, in overtime in September.Â
