November 24, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Along with blocking a season-high 10 shots, Princeton held Monmouth to its lowest point total in over a year. Prior to this afternoon's contest, Monmouth had not scored 40 points or less since Tuesday, November 6 2018 when it scored 32 points in a loss to Bucknell University. The Tigers also forced the Hawks to produce 21 turnovers, the most of any opponent this season since their season opener against Rider College on Tuesday, November 5 when the Broncs had 22.
Senior Taylor Baur stuffed the stat sheet for Princeton, posting a double-double as she tied the team-high in points with 12 and also added 10 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals. Junior Carlie Littlefield added 12 points and eight rebounds while senior Bella Alarie added seven points, nine rebounds, four assists, three assists and two blocks. Monmouth had a strong start to the game, taking a 5-1 lead early in the first quarter. The Hawks would control most of the quarter; a layup by Baur with 2:02 on the clock and a three-pointer by sophomore Julia Cunningham with 23 seconds remaining narrowed the deficit and Princeton would end the first quarter only down by one point, 14-13.
The Hawks continued to play well in the second quarter and led 23-15 with 4:07 left until halftime. Led off by a three-pointer Haire with 2:44 remaining, the Tigers went on an 8-0 run that also featured a Littlefield jumper in the paint, a pair of Cunningham free throws and a driving layup by Littlefield with 48 seconds on the clock that give Princeton a 24-23 advantage. Littlefield drained a three-pointer from the right corner just four seconds out from halftime and the Tigers took a 27-24 lead into the half.

The third quarter began as a back-and-forth battle, with the Hawks taking a 37-34 lead with 4:54 on the clock. Haire made a layup on the break with 2:43 left in the quarter to knot the score at 37-37 then Baur found Alarie for a layup with 1:31 on the clock that gave Princeton a 38-37 lead. Alarie returned the favor, finding Baur for a layup with 22 seconds left and the Tigers would take a 41-37 advantage into the final quarter.
A jumper by Littlefield with 7:33 left to play saw Princeton's lead expand to double figures, as it jumped ahead 47-37. Alaire's free throw with 5:08 remaining saw Princeton take a 13-point lead of 50-37 and then she would erase an attempted Monmouth layup with 3:24 on the clock as the Tigers' defensive intensity never wavered down the stretch. Baur would block two layup attempts inside the final 10 seconds and Princeton would hold on the for the 52-40 victory.
