Princeton Opens Up Berube Era With Big Victory Over Rider

PRINCETON, N.J. – Behind a big second half performance, the Princeton Tigers roared by the Rider Broncs, 80-47, at Jadwin Gym to start the 2019-20 season.

The Tigers outscored the Broncs, 47-23, in the second half to pull away from its nine-point halftime advantage. Princeton outrebounded Rider, 45-26, and forced 22 turnovers in the win.

The two-time Ivy League Player of the Year, Bella Alarie, registered a team-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, adding eight rebounds and two assists. Neenah Young dropped in three treys, snagged a career-high 11 points while Carlie Littlefield contributed 10 points, a career-high seven helpers and six boards in the victory.

Princeton knocked down five three-pointers in the first quarter to jump ahead, 16-10. The Tigers led by as many as 10 in the second frame before taking a 33-24 lead into the intermission.

Head coach Carla Berube's squad's offense was outstanding in the third quarter, putting up 27 points on 57.1 percent shooting from the floor. The Tigers ran off 13 of the first 17 points to open up the second half, missing just one shot during that stretch to expand its lead to 18. Rider never threatened after that.

Berube's defensive group allowed just three baskets in the final 10 minutes. The Tigers sank 26 free throws in the contest including 22 in third and fourth stanzas.

Princeton heads on the road Sunday to take on George Washington. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
