Aririguzoh Posts Double-Double, Men's Basketball Falls to Monmouth

PRINCETON, N.J. – Despite a 10-0 run late in the second half and a herculean double-double from senior Richmond Aririguzoh, the Princeton University men's basketball team fell 67-66 to Monmouth University after the Hawks drained a three-pointer right before time expired Tuesday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
Aririguzoh led the Tigers with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting along with 10 rebounds and four blocks, tying his career-high that came against the University of Akron on Saturday, December 23, 2017.
Sophomore Ethan Wright also had a career night as he scored a career-best 14 points on 3-of-6 shooting and 6-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. Wright's six made free throws were also a career-high. Sophomore Jaelin Llewellyn came close to a triple-double, finishing with 12 points, a career-high nine rebounds and a season-high seven assists.
Freshman Tosan Evbuomwan helped the Tigers get off to a hot start, back his defender down then turning and laying it in for the first basket of the night just 20 seconds after tip-off. With 16:30 on the clock a layup by junior Jerome Desrosiers sparked a 7-0 run featuring a Lllewellyn layup and three-pointer by Desrosiers.
A layup by Aririguzoh with 12:21 on the clock saw Princeton take a 13-10 lead but the Hawks were able take control of the game, jumping ahead 24-19 with 6:27 left to play. By halftime Monmouth had taken a 35-24 advantage.
Despite a layup by Llewellyn with 17:35 left in the game that made it a 35-26 contest, the Hawks were able to expand their lead to 41-27 with 16:02 on the clock. Freshman Ryan Langborg would step into a three-pointer from the left wing with 13:17 remaining that made it a 44-34 game, but the Hawks were able to further increase their advantage to 51-37 with 11:00 on the clock.
The Tigers refused to quit and an Arirguzoh free throw with 8:49 remaining led off a 10-0 run that featured a pair of free throws by junior Ryan Schwieger, four free throws by Wright, a layup by Aririguzoh and a layup by Llewellyn that made it a 52-49 contest with 6:40 on the clock.
Wright drained a three-pointer from the right corner with 2:07 remaining to make it a 62-61 game then Llewellyn found Langborg in transition with 00:19 left to play and Princeton took a 63-62 lead.
Monmouth knotted the score 64-64 with 00:12 on the clock but Schwieger connected on a pair of free throws with 00:04 remaining, putting the Tigers ahead 66-64.
With time expiring, Monmouth would make a three-pointer and secure the 67-66 victory.
