Men’s Basketball Downs Fairleigh Dickinson, 80-65

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Led by senior Richmond Aririguzoh's second-straight double-double, the Princeton University men's basketball team downed the 2018-19 Northeast Conference (NEC) champions Fairleigh Dickinson University 80-65 Saturday afternoon inside the Rothman Center.
Aririguzoh led the Tigers with a team-high 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, recording a double-double for the second-consecutive game. He was one of three Tigers in double figures as junior Ryan Schwieger finished with 14 points, including a 4-of-5 effort from beyond the arc to tie his career-high in three-pointers made. Schwieger also added seven rebounds and tied the game-high in assists with four while junior Jerome Desrosiers went 4-of-5 from the field on route to 10 points. Sophomore Drew Friberg and freshman Tosan Evbuomwan each finished with nine points.
As a team, Princeton dominated the boards as it out-rebounded FDU with a season-high 41 rebounds to 23 by the Knights. The Tigers also went 26-of-52 from the field, 11-of-24 from behind the three-point line and 17-of-23 from the free throw line.
Aririguzoh was dominant early, pulling down an offensive rebound then laying it in with 19:37 on the clock for the game's first points. He then converted on a driving layup with 17:01 left to play and gave the Tigers and 8-6 advantage then made another to give Princeton a 10-8 lead with 16:06 remaining in the half.
FDU knotted the score at 16-16 with 12:17 on the clock but sophomore Ethan Wright knocked down a pair of free throws with 11:57 remaining in the half then stepped into a deep-three-pointer with 11:32 on the clock to give the Tigers a 21-16 lead.
The Tigers would then take a 24-19 lead following a three-pointer by junior Jerome Desrosiers at 10:48 and continue to hold the advantage with 7:59 left in the half after Schwieger dribbled into a three-pointer.
The Knights tied it up 31-31 with 4:45 on the clock then take a 35-32 lead with 3:14 remaining in the half. The late stages of the first half would be a back-and-forth battle; Aririguzoh would pull down an offensive rebound then then lay the ball in as time expired and the score would be tied 42-42 at halftime.
Evbuomwan gave the Tigers an early advantage in the second half, making a pair of free throws with 19:33 left to play. Schwieger continued to have the hot hand, draining a three-pointer with 16:30 on the clock to give Princeton a 50-43 advantage then another at 14:42 that saw the Tigers lead 58-45.
A layup by Desrosiers with 10:28 remaining followed by a Friberg three-pointer with 9:56 on the clock gave Princeton a 67-50 lead but with 4:49 on the clock the Knights had battled back and made it a 70-60 contest.
A three-point play by Aririguzoh with 4:33 on the clock saw Princeton extend its lead to 73-60 then a layup by Schwieger with 2:41 remaining helped the Tigers hold onto their advantage late. Senior Jose Morales knocked down a pair of free throws with 0:50 on the clock and Princeton held on for the 80-65 triumph.
