Princeton's Stout Defense Helps Extend Winning Streak to Eight

PRINCETON – The Princeton Tigers used another dominating defensive performance to run by the New Hampshire Wildcats, 77-37, at Jadwin Gym on Sunday afternoon.

Princeton registered the first 18 points of the game and did not allow a point until a free throw at the 4:47 mark of the quarter. New Hampshire's first basket came on the final possession of the first frame as the Tigers led 24-3.

New Hampshire cut the deficit to 16 in the second quarter and that's the closet it got the rest of the way.

Princeton led 33-15 at halftime and then followed that with a 31-point third quarter. The Tigers gave up eight points in that frame and led 64-23 as the fourth quarter got underway.

Bella Alarie led all players with 18 points and 11 rebounds. It was her 37th career double-double while she added four blocks, three helpers and a steal. Maggie Connolly registered a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Julia Cunningham added 15 points in the win.

The Tigers had 36 points in the paint and snagged 25 points off 15 turnovers. Head coach Carla Berube's unit outrebounded New Hampshire 43-27 and did not allow a three-pointer.

Princeton improves to 12-1 overall while New Hampshire dropped 3-9 this season. The Tigers will open up Ivy League play at Penn on Jan. 11. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
