January 11, 2020 | Women's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – An 18-4 run to start the second half pushed the Princeton Tigers by the Penn Quakers at the Palestra, 75-55, on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers' senior captains, Bella Alarie and Taylor Baur, combined for 40 points and 24 rebounds as they each had a double-double. Alarie's 25 points and 11 caroms give her 38 career double-doubles. She has collected a double-double in 41 percent of her career contests. Baur's 15 points are a career-high while her 13 boards match her personal-best. Abby Meyers added 14 points off the bench in the win.
In front by three at the intermission, the Tigers roared out to a 17-point lead during that third quarter run before leading by 12 into the fourth frame. Another 17-8 sprint to begin the final 10 minutes put the game out of reach for Princeton as it took home its first Ivy victory of the season.
Head coach Carla Berube's squad snagged the first three baskets and ran off 10 of the first 12 points of the contest. The Quakers rebounded to take a brief 13-12 advantage, but Baur had an And-1 on the next possession. Maggie Connolly's three-pointer on the final play of the stanza put Princeton ahead, 18-16.
The second quarter was a close affair as the Tigers jumped in front by seven, but closed the first half with a 33-30 advantage. In the first 20 minutes, Princeton grabbed eight offensive rebounds which led to 10 second chance tallies.
