Princeton Handles Cornell, Clinches #2 Seed At Howe Cup
February 10, 2019 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash concluded its 2018-19 regular season with a 13-1 record after knocking off the Cornell Big Red 8-1 in a road match in Ithaca. Five Princeton players recorded 3-0 wins for the Tigers, who will enter the Howe Cup team championships in two weeks as the #2 seed following another impressive regular season.
Freshman Andrea Toth had the most dominant performance from the Princeton lineup, as she dropped only 11 points — and only one in the final game — in her 3-0 win at the #6 position. Elle Ruggiero, Samantha Chai, Emme Leonard and Isabel Hirshberg each added 3-0 wins; for both Chai and Hirshberg, it was the final regular season matches in their impressive careers as four-year Tiger starters.
Sophomore Raneem El Torky overcame a tough opening game and rallied for a 3-1 win at the #2 spot, while junior teammates Morgan Steelman and Madison Soukup both went four games as well to post victories for Princeton. Bubble Lui tried to make it a clean sweep; she posted a 12-10 win in the third game at the #1 position, but she ultimately fell 3-1 to Sivasangari Subramaniam.
Princeton will head to Trinity in two weeks for the 2019 Howe Cup championships. Check out GoPrincetonTigers.com that week for a preview and full bracket.
