Princeton and Penn Resume Historic Rivalry At The Palestra

Princeton will make its first of two trips to the City of Brotherly Love this month on Saturday, but there will be little love between two of the most historic programs in either the Ivy League or the EIWA. While the Tigers will look for their first four-match win streak over Penn since 1985-88, the host Quakers will be seeking a tie for second place in the Ivy League standings.
The match, which you can watch live Saturday at 1 pm on ESPN+ (see link above), will conclude the 2019 Ivy League schedule for both teams. While Cornell may have clinched the league title with wins over both programs last weekend, both Princeton and Penn would like nothing more than to being its final push to March with a big win over one of its top opponents. With two of the youngest programs in the EIWA — underclassmen are listed as probables in 16 of 20 spots — this could also give an indication of who is most likely to challenge Cornell and Lehigh for Eastern supremacy over the next few years.
Princeton enters the weekend with a 7-6 record, and a 3-1 mark in the Ivy League. The Tigers bounced back from a tough loss at Cornell by topping Columbia 20-16 in New York City; freshman Quincy Monday capped a perfect weekend with a win over the Lions, and he'll look for a perfect 5-0 run in the Ivy League when he likely takes on either Joe Oliva or Willy Kaiser at 157.
The featured match Saturday will come at 149, as #2 Matthew Kolodzik will take on 13th-ranked Penn freshman Anthony Artalona, who has won six straight matches at the weight. Kolodzik, the two-time All-American and EIWA champion, brings a 16-1 record into the weekend, and he will be looking for his seventh win over a nationally ranked rival. Princeton also has top-ten wrestlers in both Patrick Glory (#10, 125) and Patrick Brucki (#3, 197); that duo has combined for 43 victories this season.
Following the Penn match, Princeton will make its way back to Philadelphia Feb. 23 for the regular season finale at Drexel.
