RPI Spoils Senior Day in 2-1 Upset of No. 5 Princeton
February 16, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
A 57-save performance by Lovisa Selander lifted Rensselaer to 2-1 upset of No. 5 Princeton and spoiled Senior Day for the Tigers on Saturday at Hobey Baker Rink.
Junior Carly Bullock had the lone goal for Princeton with Annie MacDonald and Karie Lund assisting.
RPI took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Lili Friis-Hansen as she picked the puck off the boards and took it in the other way on an odd-man rush at 7:59 of the first period.
Bullock knotted the game at 1-1 before the close of the first period.
The Tigers continued to batter Selander with pucks but it was the Engineers that grabbed the go-ahead goal at 12:07 of the second as RPI's Aliyah Lance scored the game-winning goal on a stretch pass started by Delaney Weiss to Aimee Raithby.
Princeton's onslaught of pressure continued, as the Tigers put on the extra skater with 1:30 remaining but couldn't get one by Selander in goal.
Sophomore Rachel McQuigge made 20 saves in goal for the Princeton.
Princeton remains in first place in the ECAC with 33 points, while Cornell creeps within one after a win at Yale this afternoon with 30 points. Clarkson is in third with 30 points, Colgate has 29 for fourth place.
The Tigers have two games remaining as they try to maintain first place but it will be a battle, as they take on No. 5 Clarkson and St. Lawrence on the road.
