Alarie's Bucket With 11 Seconds Left Clinches Win For Princeton Over Cornell, 68-64

PRINCETON, N.J. – Bella Alarie's basket with 11 seconds to go proved to be the difference as the Princeton Tigers took down the Cornell Big Red, 68-64, at Jadwin Gym on Friday evening.

Trailing 14-11 with under 90 seconds left in the first quarter, the Tigers ran off 8-of-10 to finish off the frame to take a 19-16 lead. The Tigers scored eight straight after a Cornell free throw to open the second stanza to jump ahead by nine (26-17). Lexi Weger's trey as the clock read seven minutes gave the Tiger their first double-digit advantage (29-19). Qalea Ismail put the explanation point on the frame with a three-pointer before the buzzer to give the home squad a 44-27 advantage. Princeton scored 25 points, highlighted by four treys in the second stanza.
The Tigers allowed just five baskets in the third quarter as it took its largest lead of the contest (21) with their first points of the fourth frame (60-39). The Big Red got the game in single digits (eight) as the clock ticked under two and half minutes on a bucket from Laura Bagwell-Katalinich (66-58). Cornell eventually closed within a possession before Alarie sealed Princeton's fourth straight win.
Bagwell-Katalinich had a game-high 21 points while Samantha Widmann almost snagged a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Princeton improved to 14-9 overall and 6-2 in the Ivy League while Cornell fell to 9-11 this season and 3-6 in conference action. The Tigers look for their second straight Ivy weekend sweep tomorrow vs. Columbia. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The game can be streamed on ESPN3.

Gabrielle Rush had a team-high 16 points while Alarie and Sydney Jordan had 10 each.
