February 08, 2019 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Bella Alarie scored her 1,000th career point and recorded fourth straight double-double, but the Yale Bulldogs secured a 96-86 overtime victory over the Princeton Tigers at Jadwin Gym on Friday evening.
Â
Alarie dropped in a game-high 38 points along with 13 boards, six steals (career high) and three blocks. Gabrielle Rush contributed 18 points and five treys as Carlie Littlefield added 11 points and five helpers.
Â
The first quarter was an appetizer to what would come later as no team led by more than two points until Yale's Roxy Barahman's trey with 43 seconds left gave the road squad a 21-18 lead after the first frame.
Â
Princeton held a four-point advantage (33-29) as the clock ticked under five minutes, but a five-point spurt from Barahman put the Bulldogs back in front, 37-35 (1:59). Yale led 42-39 at the intermission. The first half featured 10 lead changes and nine ties.
Â
Ahead by three (46-43), the Bulldogs went on a 7-2 run in 90 seconds to expand its lead to eight (53-45) a little less than halfway through the quarter. Yale led by as many as nine before going ahead, 62-57, as the fourth stanza started.
Â
This bucket from Alarie gave her 1,000 career points. She became the 25th player in program history to reach the milestone and the first since Alex Wheatley '16 in 2016.
Â
Following two from the charity stripe for Yale, Rush hit this trey to tie the game …
Â
The Bulldogs began the extra session on a 7-0 push. Alarie got the home unit as close as five, twice, but Yale was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line in overtime to pick up the victory.
Â
This Ivy matchup finished with 10 ties. Barahman had 33 points on 11-of-18 from the floor including six from long distance to pace Yale. Alexandra Maund had 18 points and 11 rebounds off the bench in the victory.
Â
Yale improves to 14-6 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League while Princeton drops to 10-9 this season and 2-2 in conference action. The Tigers get back at it tomorrow (Feb. 9) against Brown (5 p.m.). The 2014-15 undefeated regular season team and all alumni will be honored at halftime while Blake Dietrick '15 will be celebrated between the third and fourth quarter.

Yale had seven-point advantage (74-67) with three minutes remaining before the Tigers made another push. Rush hit a long-range bucket before Littlefield created space in the paint and quickly cut the deficit to two in less than 60 seconds. The Bulldogs kept their distance with a trey (77-73) with 1:17 on the clock, but Alarie hit this three-pointer from way beyond the arc to get within one, 77-76, with under 30 seconds.Congratulations to @bella_alarie on recording her 1,000th career point tonight!
