Princeton Honors Alumnae With 93-74 Rout Over Brown

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers drubbed the Brown Bears, 93-74, at Jadwin Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Gabrielle Rush led the Tigers with 22 points, highlighted by a career-best six three-pointers. She finished the weekend with 11 treys on 25 attempts (44 percent). Bella Alarie contributed 20 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Sydney Jordan didn't miss in six attempts, scoring 12 points along with four assists, three steals and two swats. The bench unit added 27 points in the win.

Princeton held Brown to four baskets in the first quarter, ending the frame on an 8-2 spurt to take a 22-13 lead. Alarie and Rush (14) outscored Brown in the first 10 minutes.

The Tigers continued to extend their advantage, jumping in front by as many as 16 in the second stanza, before Brown settled with five straight to wrap up the quarter (40-29). Nine different players scored in the first half and the team finished with seven blocks. Alarie recorded a double-double in the first 20 minutes of action with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Brown got as close as six (47-41) in the third quarter, but the Tigers kept their distance, running off 6-of-8 to go up 12 (55-43) over a two-minute span. The Bears got the deficit under double-digits three times before the Tigers held a 65-54 after three frames.

The road squad made one more push as three-pointer from Erika Steeves made the contest a 10-point affair (70-60) with seven minutes to go. This time, Princeton pushed away, ripping through 11-of-13 to take an 81-62 advantage as the clock ticked under 4:30. Brown never threatened after that.

Justine Gaziano led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-19 from the floor. Shayna Mehta registered 19 points on 21 attempts in the loss.

Princeton outrebounded Brown, 53-33, and dished out 29 assists, one shy of the program record. The Tigers finished with 11 blocks and seven steals.

At halftime, the Tigers honored its alumnae and the 2014-15 squad that went 30-0 in the regular season.

Head coach Courtney Banghart's team improved to 11-9 overall and 3-2 in the Ivy League while Brown fell to 9-13 this season and 1-5 in conference play. The Tigers head on the road next week to battle Harvard (Feb. 15, 7 p.m.) and Dartmouth (Feb. 16, 5 p.m.).

Princeton also honored Blake Dietrick '15 for National Girls and Women in Sports Day between the third and fourth quarters. Dietrick became the second Ivy League player to make a WNBA Opening Night roster, making the Seattle Storm in 2016.
