Brown Rallies Past Princeton, 78-70
February 09, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Â
Princeton led early, but a first-half Brown run put the Bears on top and the home team held on to win 78-70 Saturday night in Providence.
Â
Princeton led 20-8 just before the midway point of the first half, but Brown scored 33 of the next 43 points over nine minutes to turn that 12-point Tiger lead into an 11-point Brown lead less than two minutes before the break.
Brown's lead peaked at 17 early in the second half, and after that, the Tigers were able to whittle it down to five on two occasions, last at 72-67 with just more than two minutes to go, but Princeton got no closer.
Â
Devin Cannady had a game-high 24 points in the win, lifting him to 1,490 for his career to remain in fifth place on the program's all-time list. He'll take a 56-point gap between him and Kit Mueller '91 (1,546) for fourth place into next weekend. Cannady also moved two 3-pointers closer to the program record, now with 267 for his career to stand behind only Brian Earl '99 (281) and Douglas Davis '12 (276).
Postgame Notes
• Senior Myles Stephens scored 15 points to pull closer to 14th place on the program's all-time scoring list, held by Brian Taylor '84 at 1,239 points. Stephens is 15th at 1,223. Stephens hit one 3-pointer against Brown, and his next one will be the 100th of his career.
Â
• Senior Devin Cannady moved up to 49 3-pointers for the season, one away from joining Brian Earl '99 and Douglas Davis '12 as the only Tigers to hit at least 50 3-pointers in all four seasons with the program.
• Cannady's 24 points were his most since scoring 24 at Lafayette on Dec. 21 and were four off his season high of 28 set on Nov. 28 at Maine. His career high is 32 points, set last season against Cornell.
