Fillier Nets Natural Hat Trick as Princeton Wins Game 1

Freshman Sarah Fillier net her first career hat trick, scoring the game's first three goals to make her way to 51 points on the season and lift No. 7 Princeton to a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence in Game 1 of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series.
Fillier entered the weekend as the nation's leading scorer, and tacked on to that lead with 51 points in 26 games. She is the first Tiger to have a 50-point season since Gretchen Anderson in 2004 (30 goals, 20 assists) and is the most points by a Tiger this century.
Princeton (19-6-5) got tripped up early when it took three penalties in less than three minutes and played 5x3 for 1:02. The Tigers' penalty kill did an excellent job, allowing just two shots on goal and rode the momentum into the second period.
Junior Carly Bullock had the primary assist on all three of Fillier's goals for her fifth three-point game of the season and eclipsed the 100 career point mark with the first assist and now has 102 points in her career, 40 this season.
The No. 1 ranked Princeton power-play converted at 2:20 of the second period with Fillier scoring from Bullock and senior Karlie Lund.
Just 1:10 later it was a 2-0 Princeton lead with Fillier finding the back of the net with Bullock and freshman Maggie Connors assisting.
Fillier capped off the hat trick as she tipped in a Bullock shot from the right circle with junior Sylvie Wallin earning the second assist.
St. Lawrence (14-14-7) snuck one by goaltender Stephanie Neatby 39 seconds later but Princeton took the 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Tigers got stuck in a five-minute predicament in the third after a major penalty for cross checking was called on Keiko DeClerck at 11:38. Just as they did in the first period, Princeton's penalty kill was relentless. After having no luck through 3:20 of the 5x4 the Saints put the extra attacker on, but still couldn't get one by the Tiger defense - that blocked five shots or Neatby - who made six saves.
St. Lawrence again pulled Grace Harrison for the extra skater with 1:57 remaining but after Princeton got possession sophomore Annie MacDonald tossed in an empty-net goal to seal the win.
Neatby made 30 saves in the win, while Harrison made 24 stops for the Saints.
The teams will square off in Game 2 tomorrow at 3 p.m., at Hobey Baker Rink.
