Colten Young Places 2nd On Platform At Zones, Will Return To NCAA Championships
March 13, 2019 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Colten Young will make his return to the NCAA Championships at the end of the month thanks to a runner-up finish in the platform competition during the final day of the Zone A Championships in Annapolis. Young, a three-time Ivy League runner-up through his first two years as a Tiger, will return to NCAAs when the 2019 Championships are held at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas, during the final weekend of March.
Young is the second Princeton diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships this week; junior Mimi Lin qualified in the 1-meter final on Tuesday and will also compete in the Women's NCAA Championships, which will be held next weekend in Austin.
While Young's official qualification happened on the platform, his top-12 finishes in both the 1- and 3-meter events this week will allow him to compete in all three events at the NCAA Championships. The Princeton sophomore assured that by scoring 726.10 points in the final session, which more than 50 points more than the final qualifying spot.
Unfortunately, junior teammate Charlie Minns fell just short of NCAA qualification. He scored 665.50 points, fifth-best in the field, but one spot (and only 7.8 points) out of the final qualifying position.
