Third Times A Charm - Princeton Takes on Minnesota in NCAA Tournament

EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers earned an at-large bid out of the ECAC to the NCAA Tournament and will be the No. 7 seed. The Tigers are ranked No 7 in the national polls with a 20-7-5 overall record. After posting a national best 20-game unbeaten streak during the year the team stumbled in the final stretch, going 2-4 in their last six games. Last weekend the Tigers had a two-goal lead on Cornell before falling in double overtime 3-2 in the ECAC semifinal. Princeton is led by the nation's leading scorer Sarah Fillier. Fillier has 55 points in 28 games, scoring 20 goals and 35 assists. Linemate Maggie Connors has 42 points and averages the second most goals in the nation with 26 goals, while adding 16 assists. Junior Carly Bullock also has 42 points on 21 goals and 21 assists. Junior Claire Thompson has 28 points from the blue line, to rank fifth in the nation in defenseman scoring. Junior Stephanie Neatby has started in goal in the last four games and has a 6-2-1 record this season with a .930 save percentage and an 1.87 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE GOPHERS
Minnesota earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament as at at-large bid out of the WCHA. After claiming the regular season title, the Gophers lost to Wisconsin in the championship game on Sunday. Minnesota is ranked No. 2 in the nation with a 30-5-1 overall record. Offensively they are led by senior Nicole Schammel who has 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points. Sophomore Grace Zumwinkle has 1 team-best 25 goals and 16 assists for 41 points. Freshman Taylor Heise adds 35 points and four others have more than 25 points including Amy Potomak, Kelly Pennek, Taylor Wente and Emily Brown. The Gophers have split goaltending between junior Sydney Scobee and sophomore Alex Gulstene - even in the WCHA final faceoff. Both have a 1.75 GA with Scobee posted a .927 save percentage and Gulstene a .917 save percentage.
PRINCETON/MINNESOTA SERIES
This is the 11th meeting between Princeton and Minnesota. Minnesota is undefeated in the series at 9-0-1. Princeton first played Minnesota in 1995, when the Gophers were a club team, at the All-American Tournament and the Tigers won 8-1.
THIRD TIMES A CHARM
Princeton has made the NCAA three times, in 2006, 2016 and now in 2018. All three times Princeton has been chosen to face Minnesota. Minnesota won the 2006 game, 4-0, and the 2016 game 6-2. Minnesota was the national-runner up in 2006 and champion in 2016.
