Larkin Selected As CWPA Rookie of the Week; Princeton Heads West To California

PRINCETON, N.J. – Laura Larkin was selected as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Rookie of the Week for her performance against George Washington last Saturday.
Larkin produced five points with three goals and two assists in Princeton's 14-8 win over George Washington. It was the fourth consecutive multi-goal performance for the freshman. She is the third Tiger to earn a conference weekly accolade this season (Amy Castellano, Feb. 18, Marissa Webb, Mar. 4).
The No. 14 Princeton Tigers head to the West Coast to take part in the Loyola Marymount Invitational this weekend at the Burns Aquatic Center.
The Tigers take on Cal-State Easy Bay (1:30 p.m. EST, 4:30 p.m. PST) and No. 19 San Jose State (6:30 p.m. EST, 3:30 p.m. PST) on Friday (Mar. 15) and Pomona-Pitzer (12:15 p.m. EST, 9:15 a.m. PST) and No. 12 Loyola Marymount (4 p.m. EST, 1 p.m. PST) on Saturday (Mar. 16).
Princeton is 2-0 all-time against East Bay, last playing in 2017. The Tigers are 1-7 against San Jose State, earning a victory last year. The program has never lost to Pomona-Pitzer in five tries, but is 4-12 against Loyola Marymount. All games for this tournament can be followed via live stats.
Head coach Derek Ellingson's team is 11-4 this season and 2-0 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). The Tigers have won four of their last five games which includes victories over No. 15 Harvard on the road and No. 24 Cal-Baptist. Over half of the Tigers' games have come against ranked opponents with them producing 4-4 mark.
Castellano is having an outstanding campaign for Princeton, scoring a team-best 40 times along with 22 assists. She also has a team-high 24 steals in 15 games for the Tigers. The junior has scored in every game except for one and has 12 multi-goal performances. Lindsey Kelleher is second on the squad in points (54), securing 24 goals and 30 assists. Larkin (28) and Eliza Britt (21) have also nabbed at least 20 goals this season. Webb has been the Tigers' main goalie, sitting with a .548 save percentage in 11 starts.
The top seven in the latest CWPA Varsity Poll remains the same as USC stands alone at No. 1. Stanford, UCLA, Cal, Hawaii, Michigan and Pacific round out the top seven.
