Princeton Falls At Richmond, 4-1
March 18, 2019 | Baseball
RICHMOND, Va. – The Princeton Tigers dropped a 4-1 decision to the Richmond Spiders at Pitt Field on Monday afternoon.
Chris Davis, Jake Boone and Joseph Flynn each had two hits to pace Princeton's offense. Connor Udell pitched seven innings, striking out five.
Davis led off the game with a triple down the first base line, but was stranded. The Tigers got runners on second and third in the third frame, but couldn't push across a run. Princeton had a runner get 90 feet from home, again, one at-bat later, but a flyout and strike out retired the side.
Finally, in the fifth, David Harding knocked a hit to left field that scored Boone to put the Tigers in front, 1-0. The Spiders jumped into the lead on a two-run home run by Brian Schaub in their portion of the fifth stanza. A fielder's choice and sacrifice fly gave Richmond its third and fourth runs of the game.
Princeton's best scoring chance after falling behind came in the eighth inning with two runners on and two out, but a groundout put a halt to the rally.
The Tigers dropped to 3-9 overall while Richmond improved to 11-5 this season. Princeton heads to Old Dominion for a two-game set beginning tomorrow (Mar. 19) at 3 p.m.
