March 19, 2019 | Baseball
NORFOLK, Va. – Jake Boone had two hits as the Princeton Tigers lost to the Old Dominion Monarchs, 3-1, at Bud Metheny Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Boone had two of the Tigers' three hits and Taylor Beckett got on base three times. Keith Gabrielson pitched two scoreless relief frames in the loss.
Old Dominion put together the first scoring chance in the second inning, putting runners on second and third with one out, but Ryan Smith got a groundout and flyout to end the threat.
Andy Garriola lined a two-run home run in the bottom of the third frame to put the Monarchs ahead, 2-0. Joseph Flynn had a sacrifice fly in the next half stanza to give Princeton its only run of the contest. An RBI single from Matt Burch produced an insurance tally for Old Dominion in the home squad's at-bat in the fourth.
The Tigers had a runner in scoring position in the sixth and eighth innings, but couldn't bring any runs home.
Beckett led off the ninth stanza with a walk. He later moved to second on a fielding error, however a lineout double play ended the game.
These two squads wrap up the two-game set tomorrow (Mar. 19). First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
