Tigers Honor Seniors With Thrilling 61-58 Win; Banghart Earns 250th Career Victory

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers secured their eighth straight victory with a 61-58 decision at Jadwin Gym on Saturday evening.

With the win, head coach Courtney Banghart picked up her 250th career victory. Bella Alarie contributed another double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Her final carom was the biggest as she collected Harvard's Kate Benzan's desperation three-pointer on the last possession.

Carlie Littlefield added 17 points, four assists and three rebounds. Gabrielle Rush dropped in 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals while Sydney Jordan had 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in the win.

Princeton rolled off 12 of the first 16 points of the contest, but Harvard countered to get within two, 12-10, as the clock ticked under four minutes. The Tigers held an 18-13 lead after the first frame.

Benzan's trey as the second quarter got started gave Harvard its first lead of the contest, 20-19. Two possessions later, Alarie regain the advantage for Princeton. The two teams exchanged three lead switches and two ties before Harvard held a two-point margin, 27-25, at the break.

Despite making just one basket in the third quarter, the Tigers trailed by three, 44-41, as the final stanza got underway.

A Rush trey quickly tied the game on the first play of the fourth, but Harvard's Nani Redford countered with a long-range bucket on the next trip down the floor. That was just the start of thrilling quarter that featured five ties and three lead changes.

A Littlefield mid-range bucket put the Tigers in front, 60-58, at the 3:02 mark. Princeton's defense forced Harvard to go 0-of-4 from the floor over the final three minutes including this final possession …

Prior to the matchup, the Tigers honored the Class of 2019, Jordan, Rush and Qalea Ismail. The trio has won 81 games in four years along with 43 Ivy victories.

Princeton won its eighth consecutive victory to improve to 18-9 overall and 10-2 in the Ivy League. Banghart's group remains tied for first with Penn (10-2) with one final Ivy weekend to go. Harvard dropped to 14-11 this season and 7-5 in the conference, good for third.
