No. 18 Princeton Secures Split at Crimson Invite

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 18 Princeton Tigers picked up a split at the Crimson Invitational, defeating the No. 15 Harvard Crimson, 7-6, but falling to No. 11 UC-Davis Aggies, 9-8, at Blodgett Pool on Saturday.

Amy Castellano's goal 37 seconds into overtime gave Princeton a 7-6 victory over Harvard.
Annie Robinson tied the game with 4:12 remaining before two Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) squads were dead-locked at six-all heading into the extra session. Marissa Webb had three saves in overtime as Princeton earned its first CWPA victory of the year.
Harvard got the scoring started a minute and 20 seconds into the contest and held a 1-0 lead until the 7:26 mark of the second quarter. Castellano got Princeton's first goal as the road squad rattled off three straight. Trailing 3-1, Harvard ended the first half with two tallies including one right before the buzzer, tying the conference meeting at 3-all at the intermission.
The two teams exchanged rallies in the second half as neither unit led by more than a goal. There were three ties and three lead changes before Robinson's equalizer.

UC-Davis kept Princeton at bay in the second quarter, snagging the last two goals before taking a 7-3 lead into the break. The Tigers made a push with tallies from Castellano and Laura Larkin to get them within two, 7-5, with five minutes left. UC-Davis held a two-goal margin (8-6) as the fourth stanza got underway.
The Aggies expanded their lead (9-6), but Kailie McGeoy and Larkin countered to cut the Tigers' deficit to one (9-8) as the clock read 1:59. UC-Davis held Princeton off the scoreboard the rest of the way, holding off head coach Derek Ellingson's squad.
Princeton finishes the Crimson Invite vs. No. 24 Cal-Baptist (10:30 a.m.) and an exhibition vs. the University of Toronto (3:30 p.m.).
