Just two weeks after finishing as the runner-up in the NCAA Championships in the weight throw, senior Adam Kelly is right back at it. Kelly won the hammer throw as Princeton opened the outdoor season at the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational.
Â
Kelly hit 66.90 (219-6) on his first attempt to lead all throwers. He improved on his third attempt with a 67.81 (222-5) before a 68.92 (226-1) on his final throw.
Â
A two-time All-America in this event, Kelly was ninth at the NCAAs in the hammer last spring.
Freshman Chandler Ault won the javelin at 65.03 (204-4) and with three Dartmouth throwers right behind him, this sets up a great outlook for the Ivy Heps.
Ault had his best mark of 65.03 (213-4) on his fifth attempt with all of his attempts over 60 meters including: 62.29 (204-4), 60.47 (198-4), 61.98 (203-4) and 64.66 (212-1).
Â
The 65.03 is the seventh-best javelin throw in Princeton history and is the longest throw the Tigers have had in the last decade.
Â
Sophomore Will Drury was the runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 4.75 (15-7). Drury passed on the first three heights before clearing 4.45 (14-7.25) on his first attempt. He then reached 4.60 (15-1) and 4.75 (15-7) on his second attempts at each. Teammate junior Noah Hurley was fifth at 4.45 (14-7-.25) clearing on his first attempt at that height.
Day 2 begins tomorrow at 2 p.m., with the long jump and discus.
