PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers climbed to No. 15 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll, the organization announced today.
Princeton is 10-4 this season following a 2-1 weekend at the Crimson Invitational. The Tigers dropped then-No. 15 Harvard in overtime, 7-6, before a loss to No. 11 UC-Davis, 9-8, and 11-10 overtime victory over No. 24 Cal-Baptist. Princeton is 4-4 in games against nationally ranked opponents this season.
The Tigers welcome George Washington to DeNunzio Pool on Saturday (12 p.m.), a team they've never lost to (51-0).
Amy Castellano leads the Tigers in goals (37), points (59) and steals (24) this season. She has scored a goal in every game except for one and has 11 multi-goal performances. Lindsey Kelleher is second on the team in points, securing 22 tallies and 29 helpers. Six players have scored at least 10+ goals this year (Castellano, Larkin, Kelleher, Britt, McGeoy and Kresich). Marissa Webb has been the top goalie for Princeton, contributing a 6-4 record and .549 save percentage. She was named CWPA Defensive Player of the Week yesterday.
Top two spots remained the same in this week's Varsity Poll with USC and Stanford leading the way UCLA, Calif and Hawaii round out the top five with Michigan (the top CWPA squad) at No. 6.
After the contest vs. George Washington, Princeton heads to West Coast to take part in the LMU Invitational before matchups at No. 22 San Diego State, Concordia and No. 17 Long Beach State.
