Princeton's Road Trip Continues This Weekend at UNCG

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers travel to Greensboro, N.C. for a four-game set with the UNCG Spartans this weekend.
The series gets started on Friday (4 p.m.) before a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., and one contest on Sunday. UNCG is 20-6 all-time against Princeton. The two schools split a four-game series in 2017.
The Tigers are currently 1-2 this season, losing two out of three to the George Mason Patriots last weekend. Princeton won the first game, 5-3, behind 10 strikeouts from Ryan Smith before falling in game two, 6-0. The Patriots won game three on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning. The win for the Tigers was Robert H.B. Baldwin '42 Head Coach of Baseball Scott Bradley's 400th career victory.
Max West had a stellar weekend at George Mason, producing a .556/.714/.778 slash line. He walked five times in 14 plate appearances and produced five hits. Chris Davis and Nadir Lewis each walked at least four times as well while Jake Boone went 6-of-12. Princeton's pitching staff produced 32 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings.
Princeton went 10-27 last season and 7-14 in the Ivy League. Some highlights include the squad's first victory over Rutgers since 2011 and the team taking a series over Columbia for the first since in seven years.
Some top returners include Taylor Beckett (.269/.352/.387), Joseph Flynn (.235/.296/.353) and Conor Nolan (.252/.364/.387). Flynn (25) and Nolan (22) were the top two guys in RBI production while Nolan also led the squad in stolen bases with six.
The pitching staff features Smith, who made 10 starts in 2018, striking out 52 in 48 innings. Eli Kimbell was one of the top relievers in the Ivy League, producing a 2.43 ERA with 38 punch outs in 29 2/3 innings and two saves.
UNCG is 6-4 this season including a 5-0 mark at home. The Spartans have victories over Quinnipiac, High Point and Penn. Austin Embler leads the squad in hitting (.342) along with four extra-base hits and 20 total bases. Last season, UNCG won 39 games and went 18-3 in the SoCon, but did not win the conference tournament.
