#1 Cornell Lightweights Hold Off #2 Princeton For Platt Cup
April 13, 2019 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
The top-ranked Cornell men's lightweight rowing team regained the Platt Cup Saturday morning on the Cayuga Inlet by edging Princeton by 2.6 seconds. By winning the top three races, Cornell also claimed the Harriott Trophy as well.
Both teams entered the race with perfect records this spring, and Cornell was able to remain unblemished by finishing in 5:45.9, while Princeton finished in 5:48.5. Including the fall racing season, Cornell is the only boat to have wins over Princeton; the Big Red hasn't lost a 1V race at any point during the 2018-19 academic year.
The entire morning featured tight racing, including a 2V race that saw Cornell win by 4.5 seconds. The closest race was the 3V race, which Cornell won by only .8 of a second. Princeton earned its lone win in the 4V by 3.5 seconds.
This is Cornell's fourth straight Platt Cup victory at home, and it's the 18th overall for the Big Red; Princeton has won a series-best 38. The Tigers will head to the Schuylkill River next weekend to take on both Penn and Georgetown for the Wood-Hammond Trophy.
