In Break from Thick of Ivy Race, Softball Team to Host Lehigh Wednesday

It's crowded at the top of the Ivy League standings, but for one afternoon this week, the Princeton softball team will turn their attention to a non-league opponent, as Lehigh is set to visit for a pair Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Class of 1895 Field.

The doubleheader will bring together head coach Lisa Van Ackeren's current team with the one which she pitched to three NCAA Regionals and with whom she earned four Patriot League Pitcher of the Year honors.
The Tigers, at 12-17 overall and 8-4 in the Ivy, are one game back of Ivy co-leaders Harvard and Columbia with Penn just a half-game back of Princeton and Yale a game and a half back of the Tigers.Â
Lehigh is 15-23 overall and 5-7 in the Patriot League. That puts the Mountain Hawks in fourth place in the league, seven back of unbeaten Bucknell.
Heading into the week, the Tigers have some national statistical standouts.
• Kaylee Grant is ranked 50th in batting average at .412
• Ali Blanchard is ranked 35th in Ks per seven at 8.6 and 73rd in hits allowed per seven at 5.22
• Allison Harvey is the 38th-toughest player to strike out, at 24.7 at-bats per K
• Allie Reynolds is ranked 30th in walks allowed per seven at 1.16
Princeton hits .271 as a team with Grant leading the way and Megan Donahey (.357) and Harvey (.317) also above .300, among regulars. Blanchard (5-7, 3.46) and Reynolds (4.34, 7-9) have handled 151 1/3 of the team's 175 1/3 innings.Â
Lehigh hits .277, with Jaelynn Chesson (.400), Mary-Hannah Smith (.366) and Ashley Rabago (.310) all regulars above .300. Parker Boyd (8-9, 3.31) and Gabriella Nori (6-11, 4.03) handling 204 2/3 of the team's 243 innings. Nori is the sister of Princeton softball alum Erica Nori '17.Â
All-time, Princeton leads the series with Lehigh 30-21, but the Mountain Hawks have won the last 10 since Princeton's last win over Lehigh in 2011.Â
