April 19, 2019 | Baseball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers head to Ithaca, N.Y. for a three-game series vs. the Cornell Big Red this weekend (Apr. 20-21).
Princeton improved to 8-21 this season with a decisive 11-0 victory over the Rider Broncs on Wednesday at Clarke Field. Nadir Lewis registered a game-high three hits as Max West also produced three RBI. Jake Boone, Taylor Beckett and Ramzi Haddad also contributed multi-hit performances at the plate. Reece Rabin produced five strikeouts in five shutout innings. The Tigers' bullpen (Trey Ramsey, Eric Hoefer, Jack Anderson and Conor Nolan) was excellent, allowing just one hit and one walk the rest of the way in the victory.
West's remarkable season has continued as he has produced hits in 13 of his last 14 games. He leads the team in hitting (.330), RBI (20) and has produced a .430 on-base percentage. Boone is also hitting .300 (.302) while Chris Davis (.294) and Lewis (.291) aren't far behind. Davis has the team-high in total bases (53), slugging percentage (.445) and extra base hits (13).
After his second complete game of the season last Saturday, James Proctor lowered his ERA to 3.72, adding 44 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings. Ryan Smith is not far behind with a 4.06 ERA in 44 1/3 frames along with 49 punch outs. Ramsey's stellar campaign got even better on Wednesday with another scoreless performance as he sits with a 1.93 ERA in seven outings. Nolan has not allowed a run in 4 1/3 innings.
Cornell is 8-19 in 2019 and 3-10 in the Ivy League. The Big Red have earned victories over Navy, Fordham, Towson, Columbia, Yale, St. Bonaventure, Army and Harvard. Adam Saks is hitting .309 in 15 starts, securing a .455 slugging and .406 on-base percentage, which would be the team-best if he had enough at-bats. Colby Wyatt (3.11) and Jonathan Zacharias (3.21) have been two quality starters for Cornell while Jeb Bemiss has given up just one run in his last 17.2 innings.
After the trip to Ithaca, Princeton has a mid-week battle at Villanova on Wednesday (Apr. 24) before a home series vs. Brown (Apr. 27-28).
