Beckett Combines For Six Hits In Doubleheader; Princeton and Cornell Split

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton Tigers and Cornell Big Red played to a doubleheader split at Hoy Field on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 - Princeton 7, Cornell 2
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first frame. With one out, three straight singles including one from David Harding gave Princeton its first run. Nolan ripped a base knock to left field, scoring Nadir Lewis before an RBI groundout from Taylor Beckett made the Ivy affair, 3-0.
Ryan Smith retired the first nine hitters and did not allow a runner to reach third base until the fifth inning.

Princeton finished with 15 hits in the game as five different players had at least two hits, highlighted by Haddad's three RBI. Smith went eight innings, scattering eight hits and striking out four in the win.
Game 2 – Cornell 15, Princeton 9
A wild fifth inning that featured 12 combined runs between the two squads led to a 15-9 win for the Cornell Big Red in game two.
Trailing by three runs, Beckett got the scoring started for the Tigers with a double down the right field line that scored Harding. A bases loaded walk and RBI groundout in the frame tied the contest at 3-all. Princeton took the lead in the next stanza with a passed ball. Also, in the fifth, a run-scoring infield single and sacrifice fly jumped the Tigers' advantage to three, 6-3. Chris Davis punctuated the at-bat with a two-run double as the Tigers scored their seventh and eighth runs.
Cornell countered with a seven spot in the next half frame. After tying the game at 8-all, an RBI single by Austin Flemati gave the Big Red the lead while a triple by Jason Apostle added an insurance tally for the home unit.
Beckett cut the Tigers' deficit in half with a single in the sixth that scored Lewis. Cornell kept its distance with a tally in the seventh before a three-run triple by Alex Carnegie put the game away.
Beckett finished the doubleheader with six hits with three in each game. Davis finished with three RBI in the loss. Carnegie had four RBI in the win for Cornell.
These two Ivy foes wrap up the series tomorrow (Apr. 21) with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
