Men's Tennis Team Ties Program Wins Record, Beats Yale to Close Ivy Season
April 21, 2019 | Men's Tennis
Wins from Karl Poling and Will Peters on court three and Damian Rodriguez and Justin Barki on court two secured the doubles point, and Ryan Seggerman, Rodriguez and Davey Roberts had the singles wins to get Princeton the victory.
Princeton finishes the regular season at 20-9 overall and 4-3 in the Ivy, tying the program wins record set in 1995.
"First of all, we want to congratulate Alex Dorato for a fantastic career at Yale for the last 27 years," Princeton coach Billy Pate said of Yale's head coach, who announced last August he would retire following the season. "He's been a wonderful Ivy colleague to me as well as a great friend to college tennis. As expected, his team played hard for him today in his last match. We played a solid doubles point but then really had to battle through the rest of the matches. Unfortunately, we'll likely be a few spots off the bubble for an at large selection for the NCAAs. Nonetheless, we had a very good year with an extremely young team. It's exciting to see what the future holds. We'll await the NCAA individual selections in two weeks for the possibility of extending season."
Princeton counts Payton Holden and Seggerman as the nation's 26th-ranked doubles team. The NCAA individual tournament selections will be announced Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. on NCAA.com.
