In Final Regular-Season Non-League Game, Princeton to Visit Monmouth Tuesday

The Ivy League race is about to head down the final stretch, but the Princeton softball team will take a break from that to make the cross-state trip to Monmouth Tuesday for a 4 p.m. single game.

Princeton and Monmouth played nine times from 1992-2003 with the Tigers winning all nine games. The series resumed in 2015 with single games annually, and the teams have split the four games. Monmouth won the 2018 meeting 13-7 in Princeton.Â
Princeton stands 13-21 overall and 9-6 in the Ivy, two games back of leader Harvard. Monmouth is 27-15 overall and 11-3 in the MAAC, where the Hawks co-lead with Marist. Both teams will have only conference games the rest of the regular season, with Princeton heading to Cornell this weekend and Monmouth going to Siena.
The Tigers carry a .276 season average into the game with senior Kaylee Grant leading the way at .421. The pitching staff has a 4.94 ERA with sophomore Allie Reynolds (8-13, 4.39) throwing 119 2/3 of the team's 208 1/3 innings. Grant's average is the 38th best in the nation entering the week, and her on-base percentage (.527) is ranked 25th. Reynolds' 1.05 walks-per-seven is the 15th-best in the nation, and fellow pitcher rookie Ali Blanchard is ranked 44th in allowed per seven innings at 4.80 and 50th in Ks per seven at 8.2. Junior Allison Harvey is the 66th-toughest player to strike out at 19.4 at-bats per K.
Monmouth ranks 25th natioanlly in fielding percentage at .972, 26th in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 3.15, 28th in shutouts with 11, 28th in triples per game at 0.29, 44th in ERA at 2.51, and 65th in winning percentage at .643, among its top-100 national rankings. Lindsey Baron ranks fifth in doubles per game at 0.40 and seventh in total doubles with 17. Alyssa Irons is sixth in shutouts with nine and 10th nationally with 21 wins.Â
