Yale Takes Two Over Princeton

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Bulldogs took both games of the doubleheader against the Princeton Tigers at Yale Field on Saturday afternoon.
Yale 5, Princeton 4
In the second inning, David Harding and Taylor Beckett led off with singles. A groundout advanced the two up a base before Conor Nolan put the Tigers on the board with a base hit to left field. In the next half frame, the Bulldogs put two runners in scoring position, but Ryan Smith got a strikeout to end the threat.
Princeton extended its lead in the third stanza with consecutive hits from Nadir Lewis and this RBI double from Harding.
The Bulldogs turned the game around with four runs in the sixth inning. Four straight two-out singles produced the second tally for the home squad before a pinch-hit three-run double from Cal Christofori made it, 5-4.
Princeton did not get a runner past second base the rest of the way, dropping the contest.
Harding, Nolan and Eric Marasheski had two hits each for the Tigers. Smith had five strikeouts in his final collegiate appearance. He finishes with 76 strikeouts on the year, good for seventh most in a single-season while his career total (176) is tied for ninth.
Yale 10, Princeton 1
A solo homerun from Yale's Griffin Dey opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second. An RBI single from Jake Boone tied the contest in the next at-bat for Princeton. The Bulldogs regained the lead with an RBI double and groundout in the home half of the third.
Yale broke open the contest with a four-run fifth frame. Christofori's RBI infield knock highlighted the at-bat for the Bulldogs as they improve their advantage to 7-1. In next stanza, the Tigers loaded the bases with one out, but a double play retired the side. The Bulldogs added a single tally in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Boone had three hits to pace the Tigers' offense. Mason LaPlante had three RBI while Simon Whiteman recorded three runs for Yale in the win.
Princeton fell to 14-26 overall and 8-12 in the Ivy League. Yale is now 18-23 this season and 12-8 in the conference. These two teams finish the 2019 campaign tomorrow at 12 p.m.
