The first meeting this season between Princeton and Loyola in women's lacrosse was a nice midweek matchup in April between two ranked teams. The rematch will have a little more at stake.
Â
Princeton and Loyola, fresh off of dominating first round wins Friday night, will face each other Sunday at 1 on Sherrerd Field. The winner of that game will advance to face the winner of Boston College-Colorado next week in the quarterfinals.
Â
Princeton won that first game this year against the Greyhounds by a 14-10 score, back on April 10. That game might as well have been 20 years ago, as opposed to little more than a month ago, as far as the second meeting is concerned.

Princeton vs. Loyola
NCAA Second Round
Five Storylines
Â
A dominant Friday
Princeton and Loyola won their first round matches by a combined 38-17 Friday, as the Tigers knocked off Wagner 19-7 after Loyola took out Richmond 19-6 in the first game.
Â
The teams combined to outshoot their opponents 68-38, never trailed or were tied after they took the lead, had the lead for a combined 117 of 120 minutes played and built 10 goals leads before halftime.
Â
The first meeting
Princeton scored the first six goals of its 14-10 win over Loyola back on April 10. The lead grew to 8-1 slightly past the midway point of the first half, which means that Loyola outscored the Tiger 9-6 over the last 43 minutes.
Â
Loyola actually outshot Princeton 28-27 in that first game, in which turnovers barely favored Loyola (10 to Princeton's 11) and ground balls were even (12-12). Princeton had one failed clear, while Loyola had two.
Â
Elli Kluegel led Loyola with four goals, while Elizabeth George had five goals and an assist and Kathryn Hallett had four for the Tigers.
Â
Loyola has not lost since. More on that in a second.
Â
Surging
Princeton has won 10 straight, matching its longest winning streak since the 2008 team won its first 10. The Tigers have gone from 5-3 after back to back losses to Brown and Maryland to 15-3.
Â
The last time Princeton had a longer winning streak was back between 2003 and 2004, when Princeton won a school-record 28, a streak that included the 2003 NCAA title and then the first 19 games of 2004, before the streak ended against Virginia in the national final.
Â
More surging
Speaking of streaks, Loyola has not lost since that game at Princeton. The Greyhounds have won seven straight since then, of which every game has been by at least nine goals and six of seven have been by double figures.
Â
Loyola went unbeaten in the Patriot League in the regular season and then won the Patriot tournament with a 20-12 win over Colgate and a 21-9 win over NCAA qualifier Navy.
Â
Goal oriented
The Princeton-Loyola game will feature 10 players with at least 30 goals on the season. Of those nine, there are seven with at least 40 goals and five with at least 50.
