No. 2 Lightweights Set For Eastern Sprints on Sunday
May 17, 2019 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
WORCESTER, Mass – The No. 2 Princeton Tigers makes the trek to the Lake Quinsigamond for the annual Eastern Sprints this Sunday (May 19).
Last year, the V8 earned the silver medal, its best finish since 2010. The 2V also nabbed a silver while the 3V won the gold. Columbia, who won the V8 contest, also won the Jope Cup. The Jope Cup is awarded to the team that has the highest combined total of points in the varsity, junior varsity, and freshman lightweight races. There has a different Jope Cup winner (Columbia – 2018, Harvard – 2017, Yale – 2016) and winner of the V8 race (Columbia – 2018, Cornell – 2017, Yale – 2016) in each of the past three seasons. Princeton last won the V8 and Jope Cup in 2010.
"The team has had two great weeks of training since our last race, and this week we've finally had a chance to catch our breath for the first time since February," said head coach Marty Crotty. "We get to see if that, combined with the guys getting out of school, will help us get to the line first in Worcester."
The 3V unit has a heat set for 8:20 a.m. with the final at 2:15. The V8 team's heat is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the Grand Final at 4:45. 2V's heat is at 11 a.m. with the final at 3:30 p.m. 5V's race is at 1 p.m with 4V's contest coming at 1:24.
After the Eastern Sprints, the Tigers take part in the IRA Championships (May 31st-June 2).
