No. 8 Princeton Ready For Ivy Championships This Weekend
May 17, 2019 | Women's Rowing - Open
PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 8 Princeton Tigers make the quick trip to the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J., for the Ivy League Championships on Sunday (May 19).
Senior Claire Collins knows what is at stake for the Class of 2019 …
"Each year is its own journey, so I really think of the collection of work our team has put in this year and it would be awesome to see it shine with all the adrenaline and energy for Sunday," stated Collins. "These four years on this team have been so fun and inspiring, so it would be great to go off on a high note."
The 2019 Ivy League Championships will have a different feel from previous years as the League's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship has changed. The Ivy League Champion will be the winner of the V8. The Team Points Champion will be the team will the most points across all boats. The AQ will be awarded to the team with the most points across the NCAA boats (V8, 2V8 and V4).
Yale secured the Ivy team title in 2018. The Tigers' V8 unit has not finished lower than third since 2008 while the 2V group has placed lower than third just once since 2009.
It's been a banner year for Princeton as it has won the Class of 1984 and 1987 Trophies along with securing the Class of 1975, Eisenberg and Hewitt/Dauphiny Cups. The Tigers also earned a win over No. 19 Syracuse to finish the regular season.
"The signature team moment would be our races in the afternoon of the Ivy Invite against Harvard and Cornell," stated Collins. "Each boat learned something from the morning and was able to come back in the afternoon and produce crazy speed down the course and pull off big wins. Sunday's championships will be a similar format, so each boat is looking to come in blazing in the morning and be absolutely on fire by the afternoon. "
The Finals for the Ivy League Championships begin at 2 p.m. The entire day will be streamed on ESPN+.
