Princeton held the lead in the Ivy League team trophy and NCAA Bid standings with just the Varsity Eight races left.
The Tigers made sure to let everyone know who was still the top squad in the conference.
The V8 squad dominated its race and was never threatened, taking the top time (6:32.64) over Brown (6:34.86) and Yale (6:35.85). With the win, the Tigers secured the Sally P. Shoemaker Trophy, the top point total for all boats and the conference's NCAA automatic bid with the highest point total in the V8, 2V8 and V4 events.
"You never know on a championship day," said head coach Lori Dauphiny. "I really wanted our senior class to have the race of their lives and it all came together. This group was one of the closest teams we've ever had and I have to attribute much of the success to the culture."
"I still cannot believe it," said Claire Collins. "This team has worked so hard but more importantly they have so much heart to believe we can do things like this. Trusting and caring for each other and pushing each other is what got us here. We race hard every day to do this. The Class of 2019 is glued together and supports each other. Each person has had an incredible impact on leading this team. "
It was the fourth straight Ivy League title for the Tigers and seventh in nine years. It's the first team championship for Princeton since it won three straight from 2011-13.
2V8 snagged the second position in its heat (6:45.21) to move on to the final. It led the final throughout (6:32.64), dispatching Brown (6:34.86) and Yale (6:35.85) The 3V8, again, paced the field the entire race, collecting the victory (6:53.22), defeating Yale (6:55.19) and Brown (7:00.45).
Princeton's V4A squad (7:23.402) held off a Brown rally (7:24.857) in the final 500m to take the win. The Tigers' V4B took down its competitors and collected eight points for Princeton with the win (7:23.18), besting Yale (7:26.27) and Brown (7:26.40). The Tigers' V4C earned second place (8:01.69) behind Brown (7:57.77).
Collins, Emily Kallfelz, Ellie Sawyer and Emily Erdos earned first-team All-Ivy honors. Sadie McGirr and Hannah Paynter were named to the second-team All-Ivy.
The four-time Ivy champion will wait for the NCAA Selection Show on NCAA.com on Tuesday (May 21, 5 p.m.). The 2019 NCAA Championships will take place at the Indianapolis Rowing Center (May 31-June 2).
