At Eastern Sprints, the V8 and 2V placed fourth in its Grand Finals while the 3V advanced to the Petite Final, defeating Georgetown by almost 15 seconds.
It was a banner regular season as the Tigers started the year by retaining the Murtaugh and Fosburgh Cups with victories over Navy and Georgetown. Perhaps the signature moment of the regular season was a close 2.7-second victory over last year's IRA national champion, Columbia, to regain the Campbell Cup. The Tigers later took the Diamond Challenge Cup over Dartmouth, Delaware and Temple before a loss at Cornell by 2.6 seconds. Head coach Marty Crotty's group collected its 14th straight Wood-Hammond Trophy before a thrilling two-tenths of a second win over No. 5 Yale to hold on to the Goldthwait Cup.
Princeton has medaled in two of the last three IRA Championships. The Tigers produced a silver medal at last year's IRA National Championship, falling just 3-to-4 seats shy of Columbia for its best finish since 2010. Only three teams (Harvard, Cornell and Columbia) have won the IRA title since 2012. Princeton last won in 2010, its second consecutive title.
The V4- unit gets the racing underway in the first contest of the IRA Championships on Friday at 8 a.m. PST (11 a.m. EST). Its heat features Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard and Cornell. The Grand Final takes place Sunday at 8:18 a.m. PST (11:18 a.m. EST). The V8's heat is with Penn., Columbia and Harvard on Friday at 9 a.m. PST (12 p.m. EST) with the Grand Final set for Sunday at 10:56 a.m. PST (1:56 p.m. EST). The 4+ group's Friday preliminary gets underway at 11:40 a.m. PST (2:40 p.m. EST). Sunday's 4+ Grand Final will be at 8:58 a.m. PST (11:58 PST).
