Princeton Ranked 21st In Preseason National Poll
August 29, 2019 | Men's Cross Country
The Princeton men's cross country team is ranked No. 21 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll. The Tigers the only Ivy League team ranked in the national poll and are ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Princeton has won the last two Ivy League Heps titles, and has 20 total under its belt. The win in cross country set the program off to yet another Triple Crown - the ninth in Princeton men's track & field/cross country history.
With a low score of 30, Princeton went 2-4-5-6-13 to have every scorer earn All-Ivy League honors. Four of those five Tigers are back this season including rising senior Conor Lundy, who was the Ivy League runner up last year. All three years he has garnered first-team All-Ivy League honors, all-region honors and competed at the NCAA Championships. Rising senior Gannon Willcutts has been an all-region runner the last two years and was fourth at Heps overall last year. Matt Grossman and Ed Trippas who both enter their junior years look to sustain scoring ability. Grossman had a steady 2018-19 after finishing fifth and went on to score in both the indoor and outdoor Heps in the 5k while earning a NCAA Regional appearance in the 5k. Trippas has an equally impressive year after cross country, scoring in the indoor 3k while making the NCAA Championships in the steeplechase to earn All-America honors. Eight incoming freshmen look to mark their mark in Orange & Black as well.
Princeton begins the season on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Fordham Fiasco in Van Cortlandt Park.
