August 29, 2019 | Women's Cross Country
The Princeton women's cross country team is ranked No. 23 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll. The Tigers are also ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Princeton finished the 2018 season finishing 21st at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wis. It marked the 12th time in program history the team qualified for the NCAA Championships. After a third place finish at the Ivy League Heps, the Tigers took second at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals. All five scorers were named all-region.
The Tigers return two of their five scorers from Regionals in Sophie Cantine and Melia Chittenden. Cantine was a steady scorer last year as a sophomore and was the team's #3 at NCAAs and #5 at Ivy Heps. Chittenden led the stripes across the line at Heps, finishing in eighth place to earn All-Ivy League honors and was the #4 runner at the NCAAs. In addition, both rising sophomores Gillian Wagner and Page Lester were scorers during championship races last fall. Head coach Brad Hunt also brings in a group of seven freshmen to help the Tigers run down their 10th Ivy League title.
Princeton begins the season on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Fordham Fiasco in Van Cortlandt Park.
