September 21, 2019 | Women's Volleyball
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Princeton Tigers won all six sets this weekend at the Villanova Tournament with a sweep of the La Salle Explorers (25-23, 25-23, 25-14) on Saturday afternoon.
LaSalle held a three-point lead through most of the first set before four straight points by Princeton put head coach Sabrina King's squad in front, 17-16. The Explorers scored the next point, but two of three from the Tigers set the contest at 19-17. LaSalle retied the contest at 23-all, but a service error and kill from Clare Lenihan gave Princeton a 25-23 win.
The Explorers started off quickly in set two with the first three points, but the Tigers roared off 12 of the next 18, taking a 12-9 advantage. Princeton extended its lead to seven, 20-13, before La Salle closed the gap to one, 23-22. Consecutive kills by Elena Montgomery gave the Tigers another 25-23 decision.
Princeton found itself trailing in the final frame, 10-8, but four of five put it ahead, 12-11. Tied at 12-all, the Tigers ran off eight straight points to go up, 20-12. King's unit wasn't threatened after that and took home the sweep with a 25-14 victory.
Lenihan and Montgomery had 12 kills each while Devon Peterkin added 11 in the win. Three of Princeton's four wins have been sweeps so far. The Tigers open up Ivy play next Friday (Sept. 27) vs. Penn at Dillon Gym. The match is set for 7 p.m.
