Three games into the 2018 Ivy League season, the Princeton women's soccer team had four Ivy standings points. After winning the remaining four league games, all by shutout, the Tigers were Ivy League champs and headed to the NCAA tournament.

That experience goes to show that, while three points would have been ideal with Saturday's league opener against Yale at Roberts Stadium, a successful league run is still possible after the Bulldogs left Princeton with a 1-0 win.

Yale made Aerial Chavarin's 17th-minute goal stand up, holding on to the one-goal lead the rest of the way even as Princeton outshot Yale 14-13 overall. The Bulldogs held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Postgame Notes

• Yale's win is its first over Princeton since 2013. Princeton had been 4-0-1 against the Bulldogs since, and the Tigers still lead the all-time series 26-13-3.

• Aerial Chavarin has scored the last two goals for Yale against Princeton. The Tigers shut out the Bulldogs in 2017 and 2018 after Chavarin scored in the 2016 1-1 tie.
