Princeton Drops Two To Start 2019 Season

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers dropped two contests at the Rutgers Tournament to open the 2019 season today.
Virginia 3, Princeton 1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18)
The Cavaliers earned a tight first set before the Tigers rallied to tie the contest with a three-point victory in the next one. Virginia picked up another close decision before picking up a 25-18 win in set four to clinch the matchup.
After leading the Ivy League in hitting percentage in 2018 (.387), Clare Lenihan was outstanding vs. Virginia, leading the squad in kills (13) and hitting (.591). Maggie O'Connell (11) and Devon Peterkin (10) also added double-digit kills while Jessie Harris had 41 assists in the loss.
Rutgers 3, Princeton 1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-14)
The host squad, like Virginia, nabbed the first, third and four sets to defeat Princeton. Peterkin paced the Tigers with 12 kills and 15 digs. Julia Schner contributed eight kills while in her first collegiate match, Lindsey Kelly picked up 30 assists.
Head coach Sabrina King's squad finishes off the weekend vs. Towson tomorrow at 11 a.m.
