No. 10 Men’s Volleyball Earns Season Sweep of Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The No. 10 Princeton University men's volleyball team moved to 2-0 in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) play after defeating the University of Charleston for the second-straight with a final score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) inside the Wehrle Innovation Center.
Senior George Huhmann led the Tigers in kills with eight and digs with five, the match in blocks with five and also tied the match-high in service aces with one. Senior Parker Dixon and sophomore Jerod Nelsen and each recorded seven kills while junior Joe Kelly led Princeton in assists with 21.
The opening set started out as a back-and-forth battle with the Golden Eagles holding a slight edge. With the Tigers down 13-12, a 4-0 Princeton run featuring a pair of Charleston errors along with a Huhmann service ace and a Dixon kill saw the Tigers jump ahead 15-13. Charleston would knot the score at 18-18 but a Golden Eagle service error followed by a Kelly service ace saw the Tigers take a 20-18 advantage that they would not relinquish, holding on for the 25-22 victory.
The second set also began as a back-and-forth battle; with the score tied at 11-11 a kill by Dixon, a double block by Dixon, Parker and sophomore Nate Thompson along with a double block by Huhmann and Thompson saw the Tigers jump ahead 14-11. From that point on the Tigers would maintain the lead, triumphing in the set with a 25-19 final score.
Princeton found itself at a 6-5 disadvantage in the third set, but a 5-0 run that featured a pair of Huhmann kills along with three Charleston attacking errors saw the Tigers surge ahead 10-6. Later in the set the Golden Eagles managed to pull within a point at 18-17, but a service error followed by two attacking errors gave Princeton a 21-17 lead. The Tigers would then outlast Charleston in the final set, 25-22.
