February 01, 2020 | Women's Track and Field
BOSTON – The Princeton University women's track & field team ended a successful Scarlet & White Meet on a high note Saturday, as the team of Milana Malec, Heide Baron, Arianna Smith and Ashley Willingham set a new program indoor record in the 4x400 meter relay.
The quartet finished in a time of 3:42.05 seconds, topping the previous indoor record of 3:44.92 seconds set in 2012 by Eileen Moran, Danielle Glaeser, Joie Hand and Cecilia Barowski. Along with setting a new program record, Malec, Baron, Smith and Willingham finished second overall and earned a spot in the fast heat at Heps.
"After three years of building the sprints squad, things are really culminated at this meet," said assistant coach Reuben Jones. "The women have been training very well and the competitions have been coming along throughout the season. BU proved to be a perfect storm as our women got into the right heats on a fast track in an exciting environment. I could feel the confidence brewing all day among the women. The goal of the weekend was to compete hard and execute race plan. Each woman followed through in excellent fashion as they ran hard and won heats. There is still more to come but we proved today that we can contend with the best in the league. It was a great team effort!"
Katie DiFrancesco and Grace Lanouette performed superbly in the 200 meters. DiFranceso PR'd, solidified her second-place ranking in the Ivy League and moved up to second all-time in Princeton history with a time of 24.28, just 0.6 seconds off the school record as she finished seventh. Lanouette was just over a tenth off her all-time PR, clocking in at 24.68 and finishing 10th.
Malec and Baron were also tremendous in the 400 meters. Malec finished sixth with a time of 55.74, which was the sixth-fastest time in school history. Baron earned in indoor PR and moved up seventh all-time on the Princeton list with a time of 56.15 as she finished ninth.
