Women's Track & Field Wins HYP for Sixth-Consecutive Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Princeton University women's track & field teams had an outstanding at the 2020 HYP Meet, winning the event for the sixth year in a row.
Princeton finished with 67 points to 58 by Harvard University and 56 by Yale University.
"After winning the past three HYP meets, this was certainly the sweetest for me," said head coach Michelle Eisenreich. "We showed tremendous depth and spirit across all event groups. The grit and resilience of this group of women is both inspiring and impressive. Our strength lies in our commitment and dedication to each other. We have come so far in the past three years and I could not be more proud of these women. We will continue to work hard over the next three weeks as we make the final push to the Heptagonal championships."
In an evenly matched meet between rivals with a lengthy history, the meet came down to the last two relays. After setting a new school record last week the, 4x400 relay team stepped up again with the with Milana Malec out leaning Harvard's runner at the line for the victory. Joining Malec on the 4x400 relay team was Charlotte O'Toole, Ashley Willingham and Arianna Smith; the quartet posted a time of 3:45.46 seconds.
Several Tigers stepped up and contributed throughout the meet. In the field the weight throwers set the tone by finishing second, third and fourth with Luisa Chantler-Edmond setting another PR as she produced a throw of 18.14 meters, eclipsing the 18-meter mark for the first time. Annika Kelly finished third with a throw of 17.38 meters and senior captain Ellen Scott-Young bested her previous PR with all six of her throws, hitting a mark of 17.26 meters.
Pole vaulter Hanne Borstlap set a PR in the very first meet of the season but has since been sidelined due to injury. She returned to form in her first meet back by clearing four meters for the win and narrowly missing 4.10 meters. Princeton also dominated the triple jump with Tia Rozario recording the longest jump of 12.13 meters, just seven centimeters off her all time PR. She was backed up by Kara Steel who finished right behind her in second with a mark of 11.39 meters.
In the 60 hurdles, Isabella Hilditch finished first and bested the entire Harvard hurdle squad with a time of 8.53, closing in on her lifetime best. India Weir and Melia Chittenden kept the momentum going in the mile as they both recorded PR's, finishing second and third in times of 4:48.51 seconds and 4:50.25 seconds.
Smith earned an indoor PR in the 400 and finished second with a time of 57.24. The Tigers would also dominate the 500 meters; O'Toole secured the win after a lifetime PR of 1:14.57 seconds and Malec would also PR and finish third with a time of 1:14.99 seconds.
Dropping down from their usual event, Sophie Cantine and Madeleine Sumner both crushed their previous personal records in the 1000 as they finished second and third with times of 2:48.48 seconds and 2:48.72 seconds.
In a showdown everyone was anticipating in the 200 between Katie DiFrancesco and Olivia Okoli from Harvard, DiFranceso demonstrated her strength as she pulled away from Okoli at the line for another win for the Tigers in 24.51.
