Men’s Tennis Falls Just Short to Harvard in ECAC Championship Semifinal
February 15, 2020 | Men's Tennis
ITHACA, N.Y. – While the Princeton University men's tennis team was able to win the doubles point and take an early advantage, it could not hold on for the win against Harvard University Saturday morning in its semifinal match at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship semifinal on the campus of Cornell College.
"As usual, it was a down to the wire battle with Harvard and an outstanding college tennis match," said head coach Billy Pate. "I'm very proud of the way our guys fought from start to finish. Unlike yesterday where we grabbed the momentum late we had things in favor for the majority of the match. However, when we didn't put Harvard away they did a good job clawing back and winning an incredible close match. Our energy and determination was fantastic throughout, we simply didn't convert down the stretch. If we can carry over the positive aspects of this match tomorrow and into the rest of the season, we'll be tough to beat."
Doubles
No. 8 Ryan Seggerman and Payton Holden quickly picked up a win at No. 1, overcoming Ronan Jahuck and Brian Shi 6-1. At the No. 3 position, Karl Poling and Bill Duo earned a 6-3 win over Henry Schulenberg and Robert Wrzesinski.
Singles
The Crimson managed to battle back in singles, earning victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4. At the No. 6 position, Davey Roberts was able to defeat Steven Hun 7-6, 7-5.
